Communication by animals and other 'lower hominids.'
In TV advertising nowadays, computer manipulation of images has enhanced
the advertisers' ability to create images that make animals appear to be
speaking. Here are a few examples of animals "speaking" language of
various sorts.
- For an example of the use of "foreign language" in advertising, see a
recent ad campaign with a Tacobell commercial
that has this dog `speaking' Spanish
- Here is a spoof of Dances with Wolves with chimps playing
various roles played by Kevin Costner and others in the movie. Listen
carefully to the way the 'native-American' chimps are speaking, i.e.
what kind of language they are depicted as using.
- Cartoon images have animals dealing with languages in various ways:
here 'Bobo the cat' is depicted as sometimes understanding English,
sometimes not:
- Another cartoon subject is to make fun of Neanderthals and other
'cave-man' type creature, as in this Gary Larson item:
- A cartoon depicting behavior by cats, i.e. what cats do in their
various dealings with mice.
And while we're at it, here's another "cat and mouse communication"
cartoon:
