"Electric Institute
of Washington. Red Cross blood bank." Several other sets of photographs exist that can be useful to us as we explore American medicine at mid-century. Some are from collections amassed by photographers working for individual clients, others from collections accumulated by firms that wanted to chronicle their own work. This photograph from the Theodor Horydczak Collection is one of many taken by Horydczak in the Washington D.C. area at mid-century. Although we may not be able to learn as much about the creation and purpose of this photograph as we can about the photographs taken by such famous, well-documented photographers as Russell Lee, we do know approximately when and were it was produced and can begin thinking about what it portrays.
