The University of Pennsylvania and the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia present

From the Unity of Italians to the Unity of Italics: the Languages of Italicity Around the World

April 15-16, 2011

Canaletto

This international conference will be devoted to the present contributions of Italian culture to global culture. All around the world Italy speaks not one single language - the Italian language - but a plurality of verbal and non verbal languages. The variety of languages - from art to music, food, industrial design, sports - gives Italian civilization its richness, its mobility, its ability to reinvent itself. Having unified the Italians, it is now possible and necessary to understand and create a network among the “Italics”: those in the world who “think Italian”, even if they use other languages or belong to nationalities other than Italian.

The conference will be held at the Center for Italian Studies of the University of Pennsylvania April 15-16, 2011, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Washington, the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, the Associations “Globus et Locus” and its “Centro Altreitalie”, and AISLLI (International Association for the Study of Italian Language and Literature).
