“Jews and the Land from Muslims to Christian Spain”

Andrew Berns (University of South Carolina)

Andrew Berns, Assistant Professor of History at the University of South Carolina, specializes in the history of Jews in pre-modern Europe, with particular focus on the Mediterranean in the medieval and early-modern period. His first book, The Bible and Natural Philosophy in Renaissance Italy (Cambridge, 2014) examined how changes in medical knowledge catalysed new readings of the Bible and other ancient texts. His current project focuses on Jews, agriculture, and ecological knowledge.
