Surgery also had become a more common experience. Photographers often captured surgical teams in action, and did so in locations that varied widely. The captions and sources for these photographs tell us that they depict operations at a private hospital, at a small, federally-supported community hospital, and at a hospital staffed by and treating primarily African-Americans. Are the differences apparent in the photographs themselves, and if so, how?
